Join the US Peace Teams
The nonviolent actions of recent months illustrate the incredible resolve of people committed to furthering peace worldwide. As the Iraq Peace Team maintains its presence in Iraq, its members working as best they can to report from the ground the real horrors of warfare, the need for nonviolent resistance is more crucial than ever.
We share the call that recently came from the Iraq Peace Team -- for nonviolent civil disobedience across the country at:
- federal buildings
- weapons manufacturing sites
- defense contractors' headquarters
- offices of energy corporations
- corporate media and
- other appropriate sites
The Iraq Pledge of Resistance, a campaign to build a network of nationally-coordinated, nonviolent civil disobedience to oppose Bush's war on Iraq, is now underway. Please visit peacepledge.org to link up with organizers in your area.
We also encourage people, and practice ourselves, to refuse to finance war, by withholding all of or part of our income taxes as well as to support conscientious objection. You can find advice on the How to of war tax resistance at warresisters.org.
Further, Voices has a wide network of war tax resisters who have served as mentors to many of us.
Thank you for your efforts and your willingness to take action and risks for peace.
Please respond as to your current activities and/or your willingness to be a key contact person for local peace teams to stephanie@vitw.org
Please also visit the Voices site for announcements about coming actions, local contact people and for recent action summaries.
